Vineyard

The 4.5 ha vineyard is part of a gentle slope typical of the region, about 35 km from the sea and 40 minutes from the city of Lisbon. The vineyard is of south south-west orientation and enjoys optimum exposure to the sun what is central to development of the vines and to the later maturation of the grapes.

The soils are deep and made up of a mixture of clay and limestone. It is worth noting that this entire zone was in the distant past submerged beneath the Atlantic Ocean. Evidence of this can still be seen in the subsoil today and in the organic matter we find there.

The vines are planted using the bilateral Colordon or double guyot training system at a density of 5,200 plants per hectare, with four white Portuguese varieties - Sercial, Arinto, Fernão Pires, and some Rabo de Ovelha, and four red Portuguese varieties - Bastardo, Tinta Miúda, Touriga Nacional, and Camarate.
